This may be off-base.... and I apologize in advance for my rants (I've had

to overcome networking crap for several folks I've help).

For whatever reason the idiots at MS put in a 'new' way of sharing drives.

The so-called 'simple file sharing'. (IDIOTS! IDIOTS! I SAY. THEY SHOULD

PAY! GET A ROPE!)

<a-hem>.... excuse me

Anyway, click the Start button, click Settings, click Control Panel (or

somehow get to the control panel).

Click on the Appearance and Themes (YES!!! SUCH AN OBVIOUS PLACE FOR

NETWORKING SETTINGS! BRILLIANT!)

<cough>

Click on Folder Options (I think you can get to the Folder options window

via Windows Explorer - if you still use that POS).

Click on the View Tab. There may be an 'Advanced' button (or maybe not -

LOL - you want MS to HELP you? ROFL!!!)

<hmm>

Hopefully at this point, you'll be able to find the long list of Advanced

settings. Lots of things in there. I believe at the bottom (usually?) is an

option called "Use simple file sharing (recommended)" (recommended?

RECOMMENDED??!!!! AAAARRRRGGH!!). Make sure that option is turned OFF (no

check in the box).

You'll probably have to restart the computer, yada yada, and so forth. But

after that, the networking functions should work, well..., like they're

supposed to. And your computers should be visible to each other.

Simple file sharing.... <shakes head>. Perhaps it's simple if you have

nothing but XP machines on the network. But it's mis-named at the very

least. It should be "A new network method to screw over users who don't

have XP".

Ok - gotta tame the anger monkies... Goose-faa-baa...

Gooooosssee-faaaa-baaaa..... Goooooooosse-faaa-baa.... <whew> Better now.

:-)
