> And how long have temperature records been kept?

As part of an organized weather service in the U.S. since
the mid 1800's. However, there are other records like French
winery records that go back over 500 years and England has
climate records dating back to the 1600's.

There are also older civilization's temperature and climate
records that have been found that go back several thousand
years.

Climate record keeping has always been important to most
civilizations agriculture throughout history.

Tree ring and ice core data also indicate climate changes year
by year going back at least 10,000 years.
