Earlier this week we had a web server brought to its knees with too much junk in the TEMP directory where VFP writes its scratch files. Apparently, these files are being created all day long and instead of going away as a good cursor should, these things are building up over time.
The whole thing is my fault, because I should have realized that nothing was deleting the files so they would need to be cleaned up. I feel foolish already, so please no lectures. :-)
What could be the cause of a buildup of VFP TMP files on a web server? Is there some setting that I have neglected? Does an ADO cursor created through OLE DB work differently from a standard VFP cursor? It appears that the VFP cursors get deleted just like they're supposed to.
I have written a program to delete the files on a weekly basis now that it popped onto my radar screen (dumb, I know), but I'd really like to know more about why those cursors aren't being cleaned up by VFP.
