Michael,
To change a system that boots into the Graphic desktop to a system that boots to a text prompt (or vice versa):
Edit the file /etc/inittab And change the line that reads: id:3:initdefault: to id:5:initdefault: (or vice versa)
The 3 and 5 are the "run level" that the system will boot into. 3 = text mode 5 = graphics (Xserver)
