I'm sure that most of you who have been on these lists for a while have been used to a never-ending stream of updates mixed with a lot of discussion of the next things to be worked on. Lately, though, things have been pretty quiet around here. I just wanted to check in and let everyone know where I'm at, and where Dabo is at from my perspective. With any luck, Paul will do the same.
After the flurry leading up to PyCon and the explosion of ideas that came after that, I most definitely hit a down point. I had a bunch of client work to take care of, and, well, spring came. For those of you who know what winters are like here in Rochester, NY, you'll know what a big deal the arrival of spring is. ;-) I've been spending a bunch of time outside working on the house and yard, riding my bike and working with my kid's soccer teams. I've also recently gotten my USSF referee's certification, so I've been spending a lot of time on that, and have my first matches this weekend! Wish me luck!
So that didn't leave a whole lot of time or mental energy for Dabo. When I have been spending time on it, most of it has been devoted to the visual Designer, and how to make it work the way it needs to work. This involves a lot of sizer integration, and as I get into them, there are a lot of little quirks with sizers that make coding them a real pain. For each commit that I've made in the last couple of weeks, I've spent a day or two trying to get things to work, so it's really slow going. What would be really cool is to have a Dabo Designer Coding Sprint, where a bunch of people get together for a day or two and everyone tackles another part of getting the Designer implemented. Hey, Rochester is gorgeous in the summer, so anyone interested? ;-)
So that's where I'm at. As my spring fever lessens, I hope to be able to focus more on Dabo, so you should see the updates picking up in the days to come.
