Hi Jean!
The Brits were going to make a last ditch stand with borrowed American guns, something the invaded western continental countries by and large did not attempt. This is not to say that there was no resistance at all to the Germans by French, Belgian and other patriots, just not a lot of house to house fighting in the cities as the Germans came in. Perhaps a little more after the invasion with the Brits and Yanks helping.
As it turned out, the Brits didn't have to fight house to house in their own neighborhoods. A fair number of the guns saw action in the invasion however, and many were returned to their owners in America when the war was over.
