One trick I use is a "Catch-all" account.
Whenever I register at any site, no matter how reputable, I use that site as my email address. So, if I registered here, I might use
profox .at. fletcherJohnson .DO.T com (but I could use Ed@FletcherJohnson.com, EdsList .at. FletcherJohnsons .DO.T com, etc.)
Since that email ID doesn't really exist, all the email that goes there is automatically redirected to the catchall account.
So if good old Ed were to start giving out my email ID, then I would know that he was the one who gave it out. Of course, since I want to be able to post, use this account from work, everyone on the list can see my email, etc., I didn't bother (I know that none of you would spam me anyway.....)
But it's a cool way to see who does and doesn't pass on my email ID.
Take care,
Fletcher

I *never* got any spam to my work address until about a month ago, now I get maybe 5 a day. I have my suspicions that it started after I was talking to a vendor of a well-known anti-spam mail gateway product, and I said we weren't in the market for same at the minute since we don't get much spam. And ever since then everyone has been moaning about more crap coming in. Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm .... wonder if he signed up for a few things using out domain ........
