I have to agree with Bill on this one point: "Actually, these people do have guts," At least Michael Moore does. He's spent a lot of time and money achieving that disgusting physique. Beyond that, he's explained why he will never understand the feeling of real victory and accomplishment. The price is always too high.

Mike, that's part of the point I've wrestled with trying to explain. If you were in a war zone, there would be very few occasions where you would actually "march into battle"; instead, more likely, you'd be standing there talking to your friends when all of a sudden, out of the clear blue, a bomb would go off and maybe take one of your friend's head off. You'd look at this, and then you'd cry a whole bunch about how "unfair" it is, and then, if you can keep your sanity, you'd realize what war really is.

You don't think > that because there was a draft crapweasles like Ted Kennedy would actually > march into battle, do you? > The draft bill would have to include provisions for the > immediate arrest and execution of those who practice treason > and sedition, and for those who care more about enemy lives > than American ones.
I think you're missing something here: first of all, if everyone had to participate, people who don't care today would start caring, and that would lessen the likelihood of actually having a war in the first place. Today, folks like yourself are all rah-rah to send other people's kids to war for your cause - but you'd feel differently if it were your kids suiting up.
A major reason for the protests that ended the Vietnam war was the draft. Those college kids simply didn't want to go to war, so they marched for peace. We don't have that today - simply because nobody is being drafted - and the warmongers know the "volunteers" aren't allowed to protest, so they've got the deck stacked in such a way that they can pull off a war whenever they want - witness our current participation in what history will record as one of the greatest military blunders of all time.
Why? Because this war isn't about Afghanistan or Iraq, it's about the ME. The neocons forced a war to bring the ME under control. That's what this war is all about, and that's the objective. In fact, if you think about it, that's the logical objective as well, because it really doesn't make any sense to conquer islands in the area, because the surrounding countries will just keep warring over the islands. It's the whole area or nothing, and the neocons knew that all along. What was missing is that the American people weren't clued in.

Actually, these people do have guts, because they are standing up to the establishment. They put their careers on the line, which is a lot more than most people are doing. I happen to think they would be among the first to fight a war that we absolutely have no choice but to fight. What they are saying is what I'm saying - that this war never should have happened, and it certainly isn't a cause worth dying for.

Think, Mike, think!
