I HATE that term. These people didn't "lose their jobs". They didn't
wake up in the morning and forget the way to work or where their desks
were or how to perform their duties. In all probability they all did
everything reasonable to fulfil their commitments.

After laboring mightily trying to faithfully carry out the duties that
their "employers" wishes, wants and fantasies had determined were
necessary to the bottom line these human beings were determined to be
unnecessary to the bottom line and were summarily removed from their
livelihood.

In other words:

3500 persons' jobs were taken from them...
