Very occasionally I'm asked to transfer video from a Digital 8 camcorder to
AVI (or whatever). It's very occasionally so this is the first time in a few
months I've gone to do it and it doesn't work anymore.

I'm connecting the camcorder to the IEEE 1394 (Firewire) port (as always
before) but the PC is just ignoring it. A search of the web suggests that
SP2 can cause this problem but the fixes are a bit vague (copying files back
from SP1, etc) and don't seem to have solved it on this PC.

It's running XP Pro with SP1 and SP2 applied. The camcorder is a Hitachi
D865LE and it's using a four-wire (small to large connector) cable.

Has anyone else on the list had this problem? Anyone point me at a clear and
concise solution?

Best regards
Gary Sutherland

The summary is taken from the archives, and the script that =
inserts=20
each message into the archive decodes the message body, but wasn't=20
decoding the rest of the message. I've just updated it to also decode=20
the headers of the message, so future posts should record the decoded=20
name.

It looks like he definitely did concede:
http://apnews.excite.com/article/20041103/D864GE6G0.html

I have to say, Kerry has a lot more class than Gore.

Now, the real challenge will be to see how the 2 sides try to mend the hard
feelings that have been stirred up during the past months. They both talked
about bringing the nation back together, lets see if they back their words
with actions.
