Agreed, Paul, but I would add another.
The new MS AntiSpyWare beta does a very good job. I downloaded it yesterday, ran AdAware and SpyBot (which found a couple things), then MS AntiSpy, which didn't find anything on a quick scan. Scheduled a full scan overnight, however, which did find a "spyware.loader".
I think the balance has shifted. Spyware is now a much bigger problem that viruses (virii?), and most folks' performance problems can be cured by downloading and running the antispyware stuff. Using FireFox/Thunderbird then helps to keep it away.
