OK, I did a bit of hunting, and it turns out that the patches simply replace a single line in the errno.h files. I made those changes, and installed daemontools and ucspi-tcp, and then djbdns. One problem I found was in the instructions on the website: they said to run make, then install by running 'make setup check'. I did that, but nothing got installed. I then figured out that the second command made two binaries: install and instcheck. Running those then finished the install.
I killed named, and started up djbdns, and everything's working fine! Thanks for the pointer - the stuff I've found out about seems like it's the way to go.
