Thanks for clearing up that first part, you must be aware of the usual reason this gay marriage nonsense gets on someone's agenda.
Thou shalt not kill is also a religious concept, highly valued by the "Religious Right" as you put it. Shall we now permit unprovoked murder? Seems to me the same logic as permitting homosexual behavior, I mean if the Religious Right object to it we have to allow it . . . , it's a D thing.
Separation of Church and State means that the State shall not pick a certain religion as the State religion, as the Muslim countries do. The US could not become a Lutheran Country or a Catholic Country, for example. It does not follow from this that we have to tolerate homosexuals or their disgusting behavior, let alone recognize it as "legal" in some way.
