"America's military commander in Iraq ordered British troops to prepare a full-scale ground offensive against Iranian forces that had crossed the border and grabbed disputed territory, a senior officer has disclosed."
And a little further down: "Lt Gen Ricardo Sanchez then ordered the British to prepare to send in several thousand troops to attack the Revolutionary Guard positions."
"The incident is reminiscent of the exchange during the Kosovo conflict between the American general, Wesley Clark, the supreme allied commander Europe, and Gen Sir Mike Jackson, the British commander. When Gen Clark told Gen Jackson to send British troops into Pristina airport to prevent Russian troops from taking control Gen Jackson refused. He was reported to have said: "I am not going to start World War Three for you."

The folks pulling the strings (those who made the invasion happen) aren't finished. The primary objective was, and continues to be, the transformation of the ME to subservience. With the ME, it's all or nothing. Victory or defeat. We don't see it yet, but those are the cards being played - and what makes this war worse than Vietnam.
What's going to happen next: an incident will happen involving another country in the area. At the moment, it seems likely Iran, but that could change. Bear in mind that Sanchez would not have given that order without approval.
We've been pitched by all sides every way from Sunday, but when all the talking is over, the one constant is the underlying mission (transformation).
The situation is going to come to a head pretty fast, because "Iraqization" will surely fail in much the same way that Vietnamization failed. The military really has only 2 options: get out altogether or come up with another mission. Because the folks behind the invasion have no intention whatsoever of getting out, they have only one direction: another "emergency".
Can you say "Gulf of Tonkin"? Just watch the teapots, because one of them is going to start boiling soon.
