Depends on what you're trying to do. In your FAN (Family Area Network), Internet access is limited by external speed, so installing Gigabit Ethernet gets you nothing. OTOH, if you're copying *really* large files from place to place, you might see a little improvement.
The place where 1000M shines would be between clustered machines or between application servers, web servers and data servers.
I'd be interested to hear if you think there's a place for this.
