I suppose a lot depends upon how long you intend keeping and using the computer. If you're going to replace it after 18 months or so then I wouldn't bother. PCs are virtually obsolete from the moment you take them out of the box, after all.
Most of the shop-sold extended warranties aren't very good value anyway. The shop takes a big chunk of the money as commission from whoever actually operates the scheme. You might well find you can get a better deal from an independant maintenance company.

The 15 inch Toshiba notebook (Celeron 2.4, 512, 40, Combo drive, XP Home) that I bought a while ago could have a 3 year extended warranty from Circuit City for $233.19. Should I get it?
