My husband has purchased electronics some years past from Circuit City, and
has purchased their extended warranties. He did not have the same problems
with them that you had with Best Buy. Ditto for warranties purchased from
Sears. It is possible that the problem was with Best Buy and not with the
fact of extended warranties in general.
Still, we no longer purchase extended warranties on anything but expensive
items. If it is cheap enough to replace it when it fails, that's what we do
and consider ourselves self-insured on smaller items.
