last week I posted a note about getting my suse 9.0 pro system set up as a web server to replace a win2003 web server. It is working great.
I never did get the win2003 server so that it was visible to all workstations on the network. That was a major problem for me because files could not be copied to the web server for Internet users (customers) to download. The Linux server worked 'out of the box'. The command line takes some time to learn, mainly because all the different Linux distributions seem to use slightly different paths for the files. This, unfortunately, makes it so that you can't search for things in google and expect it to work exactly as written. Once you get used to the differences, it is not a big problem.
Another major plus is that you don't have to be paranoid about viruses. Did you hear about Diabold (sp?). That is a company that makes software for ATM machines. They used WinXP with the latest update and now many of the ATM machines are down with viruses. Too bad they didn't use Linux. This is a good opportunity for some company with Linux expertise to pick up some contracts.
