the second you say 'internet app' - in my wee heid -
I THINK you are speaking of 'something' thats gonna render / output the
html needed by the client browser, in real time.

You've mentioned that you are gonna be using a *nix server as your web
server [implying apache here, or something else] ..

All of your buttons / grids / navigational stuff will have to be part of
some html thingie. Some ppl like java and javascripting, other ppl like php
..

Strongly suggest you choose some server side paradigm first that can handle
the rendering / output of html rather quickly. There are may websites out
there that use php / mysql to do this - its one that I use due to cost and
speed. Just my 2 yuan...
