Hi Pete,
Its about Freedom of Religion and Freedom in general. The Religious Right, a misnomer since they are more about politics than religion, would like to tear down the wall that separates church from state. If successful, they could push candidates, including the President of the United States, into political office. Then they could have a direct influence on judicial appointments to the courts including the Supreme Court.
Once they had control of the judicial system, they could interpret the constitution and bill of rights in accordance with the Religious Rights point of view on abortion, prayer, proper social behavior including morals, free speech, and it could even go so far a proper apparel.
This would lead to the forfeiture of our freedom and a church state that dictated everything.
To make a long story short, Hitler Bad, Lenin Bad, S talon Bad, Bush Bad. Freedom Good.
