I think so too.. the idea that we must go from VFP file based table/dbc to a high end server isn't where I am coming from.... I do know that MySql is a really good starting point to get away from the VFP data structure and get into clent/server mode. As far as linux goes I am setting up a Mandrake 9.1 box on my DMZ port this weekend :) for email/web server and MySql so I am all for that.
thanks again...

Hi Gene,
You have a good plan, and one that will provide a very powerful solution.
If you don't mind making your database server a Linux Computer, you might consider postgreSQL as the database server. I have never understood why MySQL has always been so much more popular that postgreSQL, since to me postgreSQL has always offer more, es pecially for heavy duty work with hundreds of concurrent connections. I guess it's just one of those things. Maybe it was because MySQL was easier to administer for anyone providing internet service for a fee.
Anyway, with Linux you would have three or four very good database server from which to select, all at a very reasonable price. If your SPT is written correctly and you don't make to great a use of stored proecdure, it should be easy to port your app bet ween different backend server.
