I can't back up Michael's statement. One of my clients had a consistent
problem with Fox tables being left open after a system crash (NT 4.0). If it
does this with .dbf, no reason to think it wouldn't do it with low-level
files too.

Just to put my 2 cents in, I agree with Derek, but, have seen
crashed applications leave files open and or locked.
