Too many toys and too little time!
I'm spending as much time in c# as possible these days.

Hi Stephen,
For my understanding, Visio is something like a "general purpose visualisation toolkit". Yes, it can build models of your house, , of your model train tracks as well as of your classes and your data. But in contrast to a highly specialized tool like VisualUML or RationalRose (for Class Design) or xCase and Erwin (for Database design) there's a lot lacking. xCase generates all necessary scripts for creating the database as well as transferring and massaging the data. It also creates the necessary trigger code and the Stored procedures, depending on the possibilities of the backend. Haven't found that in Visio.
Since your experience with xCase are from 1999, you really should check it out again. It's four years and three versions later. The Trial version is the Pro version with support for all datamodels.

I had a copy of the Pro version with a former company. It wasn't close to the capabilities of Power Designer, but then at 1/4 the cost you are getting what you paid for, a decent modeling tool.
I really hated all the tables that xCase generated that seemed to pop into the area that I was just working in. Finding out after the fact was a pain.
Issues that I am remembering were identity columns, the use of Next_ID in the DBC. Coming from a FoxPro specific vendor I was expecting primary keys to become identities in SQL Server. This goes back to a 1999 version of xCase on VFP6.
Now back to other assertions. In the high dollar version you have not only a data layer but objects and ability to easily convert between presentation styles. Oh yeah they can also go between all different providers giving you scripts to run on your own or through the tool.
Have you used Visio in the .NET version? I think it's superior to the xCase product and probably half the cost, off the top of my head. You get it as part of the MSDN subscription too!
