I spent a lot of time on the cifcombobox several years ago and made several changes in the code relating to this problem. I seem to remember it has to do with how the return value is handled.
I will have a look as soon as a get a chance and try and see what I did.
I do exactly what you are trying to do all the time so I obviously solved it but my change logs are not necessarily all they should be.
Get back to you ASAP.
As a starter I seem to recall it had something to do with code in updatedisplayvalue(), lookupvalue() amongst others. There is also a "gotcha" in getsqlstatment() if you try extracting values using a property in the combobox as the Requery() on the form doesn't access it.
BTW: I presume we are talking about cifcombobox in ccustctl?
