There are two problems here. First, what you do on company grounds is

the company's business. If they want to listen to your phone calls or

monitor your E-mail, be it on their behalf or personal, that's their

prerogative. Second, some means of communication are inherently less

private than others. You don't expect a converation in a subway car

or a restaurant to go on without being overheard, and you may be able

to expect that unencrypted E-mails might find their way into somebdy

else's hands.
